Art Deco Commonwealth Bank - Bellingen

This is the second of two Art Deco banks in the township of Bellingen. This one if very interested for its use of cream/yellow brick. So many small towns around Australia have some fascinating Modernist architecture. It's a shame that the period isn't as well considered as other periods are.

Former Art Deco Bank - Bellingen

This wonderful streamline Modernist/Art Deco building is in the main street of Bellingen, New South Wales. I can only assume it was originally designed for a banking business. This forms a series of recent entries on my blog that explore modernist Bank design throughout Australia. This is one of two interesting Art Deco building in the township, the other being the Commonwealth Bank.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia - Bourke Street Melbourne

Yet another impressive example of Modernist Bank design, this time in the form of what would have been a very tall high-rise block when it was erected in the central Melbourne Business District. It is one of many impressive commercial buildings that dot the Melbourne skyline. Check out my photographs of Melbourne Modernism here (being updated on a regular basis)

Grafton Art Deco Commonwealth Bank

Yet another great example of stripped classical art deco style, this time in the main street of Grafton, Queensland. There is something great about Modernist buildings, but I reckon there is something perfect about them when they are on a street corner, like this building. They don't just stand there and make a statement, they command the entire street! The white is broken up by the detailing in the upper areas pained yellow, just happening to be the colous of the CBA!
